“The pursuit of learning is the pursuit to grow.”
Our organization was born out of the soul of educators. Leicle (d.1992) and Maxine Bostic raised their children that if you stop learning, you’ve stopped living. So after the untimely passing of Leicle Bostic in 1992, and the naming of the Leicle Bostic Traditional Magnet School in 1996 (USD259) his wife and school counselor, Maxine Bostic found that the library was seriously lacking in the main thing libraries need: books. From this point on, she began a yearly donation of books to the school. Over the years her children began to donate to Bostic Elementary as well as other causes. Over time, others outside of the family wanted to share and encourage what became the aim of the LRE McGlotham Foundation: “to educate and motivate students and educators to become lifelong learners.”
As a board made of a counselor, an accountant, dentist, and two interventionists, we know that learning comes in different forms. Maybe it’s cosmetology school for a student needing to pay for tools for their class, or professional development for a teacher that wants to offer her students the best and most innovative and applicable lessons available. We want students and educators to truly embrace the idea that education is more than just school during the year- it’s seeking knowledge FOREVER! We want to inspire PASSION for self-learning and responsibility to yourself and your community!
With this in mind, we reach out to schools in need of help to motivate or educate their students through our caps and gloves drive, school supply drive, and our yearly book donations. We have currently adopted two elementary schools in Garland Texas and 4 schools in Wichita, Ks. At these schools we have donated books, school supplies, caps and gloves. As a diverse all female board, it is of particular importance that we build mentoring relationships- which led to our partnership with the Dallas based mentoring group Girls In. This opportunity allows our Dallas chapter to come speak to teen girls about career, school and life choices. We are also very active in the encouraging young men, as we have partnered with churches to support young people with making college and career choices in various programs. Our board members are currently working to recruit teachers for the 1st annual ACT Up (Action Collaboration Technology) STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) conference to help other educators learn how to bring more STEM based lessons and teaching approaches into their classroom. Our aim with choosing presenters is to give educators a new vigor and insight that they can take back to their classrooms to inspire students to look the connections from real world problems to STEM based solutions.
“Reaching minds through reading, expanding minds through technology, and opening doors through direction to achieve greatness for God’s purpose.”
